… Deng’s comments follow a visit by Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang to London where he met his British counterpart, David Cameron.
After the meeting Li told reporters his country wanted to see a “strong, prosperous and united United Kingdom”.
“I believe that the United Kingdom can stay at the forefront in leading the world’s growth and development and also continue to play an important and even bigger role for regional stability and global peace,” Li added… Read More…
I think the time has come for China to publish their “worldview”, a blueprint of their ideological principles that will guide Chinese foreign policy in the future.
As China becomes an economic and political superpower of the 21 century and will have a strong influence on international relations, such a “declaration of intentions” is reasonable and expected. I don’t want my country to depend on morally flexible and opportunistic tendencies of another. I want to know that Chinese foreign policy is not rooted in greed, materialistic mentality and totalitarian attitudes. I want to see that China respects other nations’ and other regions’ rights, including the right to self-determination, freedom, and democracy.
It is not China’s place to oppose Scottish independence or to apply any pressure on the outcome of Scottish independence referendum. This decision belongs to Scottish people alone and should be based on their aspirations, their history, their culture, and their traditions, not on the best interest of Chinese “international students” or Chinese concerns about the national integrity of their own state.
Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang’s comments about the “positive” role of United Kingdom in international politics signal some serious problems with the integrity of Chinese diplomacy.
United Kingdom has been consistently supporting Israel’s occupation of Palestinian Territories and violations of international law committed by Israel in the process. United Kingdom does not take steps to stop Israeli apartheid policies or ethnic cleansing efforts in Palestine. United Kingdom has not condemned Israeli war crimes.
Since 2001, United Kingdom has fully supported and enthusiastically participated in American criminal wars of conquest, taking part in invasions of several sovereign countries, meddling in their internal affairs, or suppoting terrorists and other non-state agents in bloody destabilization efforts.
British history is full of conquests, colonization, and exploitation of other nations. History of British diplomacy is full of hypocrisy. Such profile cannot be praised by any country that aspires to become the world’s leader. At this time in world’s development, a true interpretation of history and reality is needed and expected of China.
